JW Rihoy & Son Ltd is delighted to announce that Stewart Giles MCIOB, has been appointed as a Director.

Stewart joined Rihoy’s in 2004 as a Project Manager. Since then he has been involved in several of the company’s larger contracts including the current redevelopment of Victoria Avenue for the Guernsey Housing Association.

Stewart, who is originally from the UK, came to Guernsey in 1999 to work on the Admiral Park Complex. He then went on to help build the Co-Operative Store at St Martins.

He has been in the construction industry since the age of 16.
Stewart, who is 39, is married to wife Sarah with whom he has a son, Adam, aged 3.

The quality of African aid has improved, according to a Tumaini Fund volunteer.

Suez Project
Guernsey Residual Waste Recovery Facility

RIHOY & SON is delighted to have been part of the preferred submitted proposal by Suez Environnment as their local partner.

Our role in the project will be to undertake the majority of the construction work required for the proposed facility. We shall do this in partnership with Norwest Holst, Vinci Group, a major construction and civil engineering contractor.

More than two thousand tonnes of concrete will be poured this week using specialist equipment from the UK.

Rihoy & Son have contracted Stanford Industrial Concrete Flooring Ltd to lay the floor of a warehouse in Longue Hougue lane that will be used as the new distribution warehouse for the Channel Island Co-Operative Society.  The warehouse covers 4200sqm (46,000sqft) and is being built by Rihoys for J&D Norman Ltd.

JW Rihoy & Son is delighted to announce that Steve Moores BSc, MRICS, MCIOB, has been appointed as Surveying Director for the company.

Steve joined Rihoys in 2002 as a Quantity Surveyor. Since then he has been involved in several of the company’s larger contracts including the redevelopment of La Rue des Marais housing development for the Guernsey Housing Association, the construction of B&Q, and the provision of sheltered housing at Rosaire Gardens for Housing 21.

Steve, who recently turned 40, is married to wife Lorraine with whom he has a son, Callum, aged 9.

A five week restoration of one of Guernsey’s three historic lych gates is complete.  St Matthew’s Church’s lych gate, which was built at the same time as the church in 1854, had suffered with age and was in need of urgent repair.

It has 42,000 members in total.

THE next phase in essential conservation work at Ste Apolline’s Chapel has begun. The chapel, which is believed to date from 1394, has been under threat from damp but now extensive restoration works have begun to preserve what is thought to be the only medieval chantry chapel

CATHERINE GOUBERT has spent more than 15 years raising funds for ActionAid and hasnow been given the chance to go to Cambodia to see the difference it makes.  As secretary of Guernsey’s ActionAid Support Group, 53-year-old Catherine has helped raised thousands of pounds for much needed projects across the Third World and is thrilled at the chance to see exactly how the money is spent.
