We are looking for a Wood Working Machinist to join our busy team.

The Position

The Joiner – Wood Working Machinist role involves working in our own joinery workshop as part of a team, providing joinery services for the company. You will also be required to do occasional site-based work.

They are responsible for working with woodworking tools and machinery to create and repair wooden building components, and bespoke items.

Qualifications/Work Experience

  • City & Guilds Diploma in Bench Joinery or Carpentry and Joinery
  • Experience of working in joinery workshop
  • Knowledge of Woodworking Machine regulations with appropriate training
  • Ability to examine tools and equipment to ensure they are in good working order and fit for purpose
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and data
  • Understanding of safe systems of work

Hours - Full time, 40 hours per week

Responsibilities

  • Analysing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems in conjunction with site management
  • Developing specific goals and plans to prioritise, organize and complete tasks in a competent, safe and timely manner
  • Study Architectural plans to determine dimensions and materials required
  • Measure distances from reference points and mark guidelines on working surfaces to lay out work
  • Determine vertical and horizontal alignment using spirit-level, laser level, or transfer measurement techniques
  • Shape or cut materials to specific measurements using hand, portable or workshop machine tools
  • Check quality of completed pieces of work
  • Liaise with site management in regard to ordering materials in good time
  • Examine tools, equipment and machinery to ensure they are in good condition and fit for purpose
  • Unload and distribute materials to required location
  • Follow all health and safety procedures, and instructions
  • You will be inducted in the safe and competent use woodworking machines
  • Ensure that workshop is maintained in a clean and tidy condition
  • Clean machines and workbench after each use
  • Occasional site work, fitting of joinery and some repair work
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks as requested
  • You will require physical fitness for the job which includes:
    • perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the body such as climbing ladders, lifting, stooping and handling of materials
    • Using hands and arms when handling and positioning materials
    • The job requires that you stand for long periods of time and will involve heavy manual labour. E.g. you will need to lift heavy materials throughout the day
    • You are to use correct lifting techniques when moving or lifting plant or materials
